I heart needle felting

Chh, chh, chh, chh .... That's what poor J has been hearing for the last few evenings as the needle goes in and out of the felted wool balls for the umpteenth time. But it's done. Delivered safely to the cutest little baby boy yesterday afternoon.

I've been wanting to try needle felting for months. The needles, mat and wool roving have been patiently waiting for other more urgent projects to end. My two adorable books have been flipped through many times by girls little and big. Orders have been placed by two adorable children. If only those barbed needles didn't hurt so much as they go into my fingers!

This mobile is based on a project in 'Kyuuto! Japanese Crafts: Fuzzy Felted Friends' - ISBN 9780811860666. It seemed to be the simplest project, perfect for a novice like myself. After a comical attempt at the bird in the book, the second successful attempt is my own design. That's part of what I'm loving about felting. Squeeze it a bit there, poke a bit more there. The shape is so easily changed. I've heard it fittingly referred to as sculpting with wool. It's the texture that I love most though. So soft and touchable.

More needle felting will follow. First though are some overdue jammies for the wee girls, pushed to the top of the queue by Sew, Mama, Sew's September Pajama Party.

That is absolutely gorgeous - well done you! I'd have that hanging in my own room, but I don't need any help falling asleep.
