Balance

Parenting is a strange thing. They talk about how kids love routine, but I love it too. Like knowing that Audrey will have a nap after lunch every day, unless she's had a car kip. But Hannah has reached an age where she has outgrown naps. First it went to every second day. More recently it's been twice a week. But for just over a week there's been no nap for our biggest little miss. And she's coped really well with the change. It's just me ...

I look forward to the quiet times of the day. Nap time, bed time, and the odd occasion where I find two girls looking at books simultaneously. I'm a quiet person by nature, and so is J. The noise of two children (or even one) has been one of the toughest adjustments to parenthood for us I think. But there's also comfort in the constant noise. Whenever the house falls unexpectedly silent, it's usually a cause for concern.

I'm finding I have less time with Hannah awake all day. Balancing all I need and want to get done in the day has become just that much harder. Everyone is still well fed and dressed in clean clothes, but I'm finding less time to gather my thoughts into some sort of order. Don't even mention writing them down. So I have a couple of little fairy costumes and an almost complete christmas gift to talk about, but they'll have to wait until another day.

Thanks for dropping by my blog! I remember when my twin sister and I were little we use to pretend to nap while mum worked in her sewing room. I suspect she knew we were in our rooms playing and not napping, but I think she must have just needed that time to herself, minus the children! Hope you manage to squeeze some time in for you self too, as we all need it! :)

I couldn't agree more and honestly, I thought by this stage (Ella 5 and Leila almost 2) that there would be more quiet time. I worry sometimes that I'm selfish for wanting 5 minutes of "me" time during the day. I think the modern parent is so used to sacrificing so much of their time that we find it hard to say no. During almost all my waking hours I'm with my girls, entertaining them, being with them, supervising activities etc. Ella will play alone a little on occasions but just prefers to be with me. I mean you can't really object to that can you? Leila's latest thing is she thinks her cot is scarey and won't sleep in it. Yesterday she took her nap in Ella's bed and today in ours. Same deal at night and then we transfer once asleep. I think perhaps she needs to move into a big girl bed sooner than her sister. It's on my list, but with that goes reorganising Ella's room as well - new bed for her, desk, reorganise wardrobe, etc etc etc Tooooooo tiring.

PS sorry to hijack your post with my whine!
